The International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language in Ukraine

Teacher Development Summer School

28 June – 06 July 2014

British Council Ukraine and IATEFL Ukraine invite teachers of English to take part in the Teacher Development Summer School.

We will offer the following strands:

This is an in-service teacher development course for primary school teachers of English who want to improve their teaching skills. It is based on current understanding and research into primary teacher education, development and primary teaching and covers the core issues in primary teaching and resource development. The course is for teachers who work with young learners aged 6 to 10. It advocates the reflective approach, requiring active experimenting with teachers’ own teaching.

This course is aimed at practising teachers who work with learners in the 11-17 age range. It is a development course based on practical classroom methodology and assignments. Workshops on this course are balanced, varied, communicative, and creative. Participants will reflect on their learning in order to develop their own knowledge and skills more effectively.

This is a follow-up programme for those who attended this course before or did the British Council Certificate in Secondary ELT online. Participants will further develop their skills in the area.

This is a course for university undergraduates and newly qualified teachers of English. It will help students to make the transition from student teacher to professional and teachers to put theory into practice enhancing the initial knowledge and skills gained from university teacher training.

This is a follow-up programme for the participants who attended the Train the Trainer course before. It will focus, among other things, on lesson observation and analysis, giving and receiving feedback, active listening and questioning skills. Part of the time will be spent on micro-training.

Programme and Trainers
The choice of courses for the summer school programme and the number of groups will depend on the number of applications for each strand. The courses will be delivered by a team of highly qualified and certified Ukrainian trainers. The team will be formed as soon as the summer school programme is finalised.
